March 1953 - USAF Maj. Carl Norman is assigned as first aircraft commander of a Top-Secret Big Safari project called Pie Face, involving a modified Convair C-97A and installation at Fort Worth of the largest aerial camera ever built for surveillance of the Berlin Air Corridors. It was a 20-foot camera wrapped in an electric blanket to protect against frigid temperatures.

There were three C-130E-II "Creek Flush" aircraft, modified at the Lockheed Skunk Works in 1975 under the "Big Safari" program. These aircraft were operated by the 7405th out of Rhein-Main AB Germany from 1975 till the end of the Cold War. The final flight was flown on September 27, 1990.
